In 2013, HFC members were going through the company archives when they came across two letters addressed to an Anna Dager of Ivyland. The first letter was from the War Department advising Mrs. Dager that her son, Thomas E. Dager, who was previously listed as missing in action on January 23, 1945, was now confirmed killed in action. The second letter was from a chaplain who gave her more information on where Thomas was when he was KIA and where he was now buried.

Thomas E. Dager is listed as the only member of Hartsville Fire Company who died in WWII.

After finding the letters, an article was posted in the Warminster Patch(11/18/2013) with the help of James Boyle to see if we could find a relative of Thomas to share the letters.

In November of 2019 Thomas’ cousin found the article while searching her family’s name. Thomas’ parents and brother have past leaving no immediate family members. On November 19, 2019, his cousin Sara stopped by the firehouse and picked up a copy of the letters to share with her extended family.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Thomas’ death. Members of the Hartsville Fire Company are honored to call Thomas our brother and thank him for his ultimate sacrifice .

HFC would like to thank Sara for allowing us to now post the letters.
